Kaneda Records is ran by Tom Bullen, Callum Hays & Simeon Soden; and was founded in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK in 2015 on the ethos of promoting and collaborating with artists in the North East from a wide range of musical backgrounds, with a strong focus in live electronic music.
What first started out as a collective with releases from the various aliases of the label's creators, Kaneda Records initial output was purely familial featuring productions from ako, Shaolin, Nearu, Mausoleums, Rohli and Lurch. These releases laid the platform for the label to flourish and gain recognition within the North East of England, where collaboration and community was a key mechanism for the label's development. Working alongside other local artists has led to further releases from some of the most exciting acts in the region, with the label now promoting an eclectic and exciting range of productions from emerging acts such as Badger, John Dole, SQUARMS, Bert Verso, Killa K & Holy Braille. With a DIY attitude running strong throughout.
This is evidenced through the events we hosted at various venues in the city, from gigs and club nights at the likes of Cobalt Studios and Cosmic Ballroom to live streamed parties in our studio space and free events across the Ouseburn Valley, allowing artists associated with the label to develop their skills. Alongside regular events and releases, the Kaneda! team is also involved in organising the Northern Electric Festival, an annual multi-venue gcelebration of electronic and alternative music in the North East, with an annual compilation released on the label featuring 60+ artists from the region.
Continuing our commitment to championing emerging artists and a DIY mentality, we have recently founded a sub label (Linebreak) to operate on the blockchain to explore and find new, creative and fairer ways of working with artists as a record label, hoping to utilise the blockchain to operate without borders or boundaries, and challenge established ideas about music distribution.
