Cass Lamb Deejay - ‘Coming Up for Air’ (available 8/2/2020)

Kaneda presents an evening of DJ’s and live electronic music, as we look to celebrate the release of Cass Lamb's debut single ‘Coming Up for Air’.

The single itself provides us with a cavernous array of minimal sounds and effects, immersing the listener in subtle undertones and deep-rooted hypnotic rhythms. Sampling from vinyl, Cass has captured and manipulated the very essence of lofi sound design and produced an incredibly deep, yet powerful techno release.

FREE ENTRY. 10pm - 2am.

Cass Lamb Deejay -

Cass Lamb (or Cass Lamb Deejay) has been playing parties around Newcastle and the North East for the last 4 years or so, and is a co-creator of the intimate, early evening get-togethers Ubuntu & House Blend, and a former monthly resident on Slink Radio.

A lover of contrast within his mixes, his style revolves around deeper house and techno, with splashes of electro, breaks, UK garage, & disco.

His obsession for digging for second-hand sounds and obscurities is reflected in his taste for retro classics, and left-field gems, alongside more modern cuts, and to stitch all of these styles together in a coherent fashion is his M.O.

“Inspired by an early morning in P Bar, during a snow-clad January a few years ago, this track marries two of my contrasting interests in techno; the lo-fi and the refined. Samples recorded from vinyl are polished and manipulated to create a track that plays with the notions of tension and release, and twists the expectations of climax; serving as a tongue-in-cheek jab at bloated crescendo techno.”

----------------------------------------------------------------

Late Night Drum Club -

Max Fiver & D. Topian are residents for the record label and DJ/party collective Late Night Drum Club. Currently spreading their efforts between Teeside and Tyneside; in their sets expect “Tribal rhythms alongside spacey electro and garage with the occasional curveball.”

Om10

 -----

om10's industrial soundscapes have been on our radar for a while now. We first witnessed his skills playing at one of Backdrop's infamous sweaty raves in the back room at Ernest. It's with great pleasure that we can invite him back there to showcase his sonic prowess in celebration of his debut release on Kaneda! Records. Experiencing his productions in a live setting is the optimum environment to consume his music and he's been at the top of our list of bookings ever since that first encounter.

No stranger to our bills ever since, om10 has graced our stages on many occasion. Most recently at the Tanners Arms for our Halloween Party, where he experimented with a bunch of new material showing off his scary industrial soundscapes and unleashing hell on their system. We can't wait to experience what he has in store for us in January. A couple of years back at one of our Tin Sessions, Ruari (unexpectedly) managed to set off the fire alarm with the pure fire that was emanating from the system whilst he was performing (well kind of, people were also smoking in the corridors but i'll leave the trigger for the fire brigade arriving for you to decide....) - nonetheless the sirens complimented his music perfectly and no one was any the wiser!

Check this remix he sorted for us last year, plus a bunch of other material he's released previously on his Sun Harmonics imprint -

We've had a wonderful relationship with these 2 talented gentlemen since we first crossed paths at the inaugural NEF, when they had the Cumberland Arms bouncing from the start to finish. We've been playing at each others showcases ever since, spreading the joys of local electronic music to the populus!

Mausoleums

Mausoleums are a dark electronic three piece influenced by minimal wave and darkwave, who combine aggressive synthesisers, mechanistic drum machines, throbbing bass lines and echo soaked vocals with arresting guitar to create raw and haunting industrial soundscapes. Mausoleums have been described as capturing the brooding intensity of Carpenter’s films played out in minimalist repetition and often perform backed by live video projection created using horror films, VCRs and mangled games consoles. They have recently added a guitarist to the line up, marking a watershed in their live performance, moving to a more tactile hardware-only set up featuring, among other things, floppy disks. They are now poised to release their second single with the new line up featuring tracks 'Alive' and 'Parasite'.

Vigilance State

Relative new-comers to the North East electronic scene, Vigilance State are quickly proving themselves to be one to watch. They are undisputed masters of angular, driving EBM/industrial with impassioned live performances that are leaving audiences electrified. They have just released their phenomenal debut single 'EDEMM' which abounds with aggressive analogue synths and forceful drum machines.

NOVYI LEF

Taking their name from a 1920's Soviet arts publication, NOVYI LEF (pronounced No-wee Leff) offer an angry, political take on electroclash, plying their trade in architectural punk via analogue synth screams and squeals.

This is a FREE To VIEW trial blockchain ticketed live-stream, organised as part of ongoing research into how cryptocurrency and the blockchain may benefit independent musicians.

Why blockchain - "PayPal for Punks: opensource money for DIY music"

The blockchain not only offers markedly lower payment processing fees when compared to existing card payment platforms, but due to its' opensource nature, affords an unprecedented opportunity for music makers to seize the means of commerce  from the mechanisms of capitalism. Further to this, due to automation in the form of smart contracts, the artist-collaborators are paid their share of the revenue immediately at the point of sale, which represents a further paradigm shift when compared to traditional live and recorded music business models. Think of it as Paypal for Punks, cutting out middlemen and ensuring a bigger slice of the pie for music makers.

This event has been organised in partnership with The Potted Wolf and Linebreak Records.

Join us to celebrate the release of SQUARMS phenomenal new single 'She Left The TV On'.

"She Left The TV On is not a happy-go-lucky, wistful-whistling tune; it’s an angsty, ankle-snapping trip. The kind of tune where you can almost smell the evaporated-sweat drenched club ceiling as you hit play; the kind of tune to which you might instinctually cover the back of your head in case of a raucous festival-style piss-missile; the kind of tune that would make your taxi driver lock his doors."

Release date: 20.03.2019, available on Bandcamp and all major online including Spotify, Apple and Amazon via Kaneda Records.
