Two of our favourite North East selectors, Cass Lamb & Fields stepping up with 6 hypnotic club ready tracks of loosely defined house music incorporating a breadth of sounds, textures, rhythms and effects.
The House Blend EP presents deep house and breakbeat executed to perfection by the duo, mirroring the journey of the party of same name, where Cass & Jonah go b2b pon the decks all night long. The wonderfully engineered shindig, set in the intimate confines of Arch 16, saw the pair initially craft a relaxed environment laying down deep and soulful tunes, before injecting energy into proceedings and unfurling a boatload of dancefloor magic. The tunes play off each other in much the same fashion, the music continuously morphing, stitching a wide-eyed smile onto your face.
Cass' subterranean and stripped back vibe compliments Fields' more nostalgic flavour exceedingly well. With nods to the hypnotic and saturated sounds of Detroit & Chicago throughout and a European influence clearly identified within the melodic and thicker style of Jonah's productions.
Before embarking on the House Blend project, Fields was part of the team that threw the infamous Ricta Disc's parties that brought heavyweight DJ's such as Harrison BDP, PVRT MNK & Breakwave to the notorious World Headquarters in Newcastle. Continued success saw the Ricta Discs resident perform at Tokyo Bar with SHU-BUI, Slink Radio, Tyneside Summer Street Party and Muscipula Radio Live at Ernest, in addition to support slots at Digital for Foreplay & On Loop with Moxie & Leon Vynehall. In March Fields released the 'Growth' EP through the Ricta Discs label containing 3 storming tracks.
Earlier this year Cass Lamb released his stunningly cavernous debut single 'Coming Up For Air', alongside a raucous launch party at our favourite creative hub, Ernest. Having played a number of Kaneda parties in the past, notably the Tin Session raves in the Gallery at Kaneda HQ and at Cobalt Studios supporting Rohli, Tunnel Club & Simon; Cass has gone onto showcase his skills at Northern Electric Festival, Backdrop, his own curated shindig Ubuntu and WIRE NCL. Whilst also remixing multiple North East alumni such as ako & Tunnel Club along the way.
Support for the EP has come from Tunnel Club on their Timeless Radio Show, where they played Fields' remix of Cass' 'Swim Deep 98'.

"House Blend is of course in reference to the unique blend of beans that coffee producers and cafes use, a parallel to our blend of loosely defined house music. The project started as a low-key evening of DJing at Arch Sixteen Café; a place that I have always enjoyed playing and championing over the years, which sadly seems to not be opening its doors again in the foreseeable future, with extended back to back sessions, from early evening til night, with a fairly liberal definition of ‘house’ music. Illustrating our idea of blending house music in the cafe venue, while also giving a nod to our own specific blend of house music we were playing; which includes house (obviously), deep techno, disco, electro, breakbeats, ukg, and ambient, downtempo, jazz, hip hop, 80’s new wave, and various strains of ‘world music’ (for lack of a better term), which were for the ‘warm up’ sections of the night.
This EP not only gives the chance for the pair to spill their beans as producers, but it acts as a send off for Fields, who has recently relocated to the Netherlands and a tribute to the music we played and the friendships cemented over these nights. Cass's tracks offers the deep satisfaction that any good coffee provides while Fields' tracks bring more spicier, breakbeat flavours. ITS BEAN REAL."
