Rohli
An exciting, industrial minimal techno duo who use ambient and found sounds to explore accidental grooves and create gritty demonic soundscapes. Their machine-driven sound combines aggressive percussion, atmospheric synths and hard-hitting kick drums to drive the music to an unrelenting energy.
Based around a traditional techno template and fascinated with rhythm and texture, the pair's sound has a dark, cinematic minimalism, producing a coherent and intense mesmeric mutation.
As their live showcase continues to develop alongside their forthcoming releases, Rohli continuously explore the world of improvisation and boutique hardware, producing a wide range of colour, mood and harmony, creating serendipitous moments of cohesion amongst a sporadically chaotic performance. The steady heartbeat of a kick drum ties the whole performance together, lending their music perfectly to the club environment adding to the deep and heavy merciless style.
Having released music regularly though Kaneda Records over the past couple of years, with 2019 single Bertha Krupp / FDL receiving radio play on BBC Introducing and Slink Radio, plus support in the clubs by local DJ's such as Dr. Joseph & Spewis. The duo haved played out regularly in the same time period within the city, most impressively supporting Giant Swan, Helena Hauff & Tunnel Club, for the Backdrop, Municipal & Northern Exposure parties respectively; and headlining their own stage at Northern Electric Festival.
Deep club rhythms, heavily doused with tonal manipulation. Long, meandering grooves and monstrous kick drums.
The first in our live series comes from our resident techno knob fondlers, Rohli. Just under an hour of deep, driving club music from the toon based duo recorded over the summer at Kaneda HQ. Featuring all new material we prepared for our performance at Northern Electric Festival over the summer, this was the culmination of one of the jams.
"Over the course of the session, we explore the world of improvisation within live electronic performance using boutique hardware, samplers and controllers, creating serendipitous moments of cohesion amongst a sporadically chaotic performance. A steady underlying structure lays the foundation, allowing us to create sounds and sequences on the fly. Arpeggios and manipulations weave from section to section, morphing effortlessly into one another, producing an intense, mesmeric mutation with a textured soundscape that is constantly modulating.
As we delve further into the idea of live performance and synthesis, this is far more colourful and melodic than anything we've every produced previously. nevertheless sticking to our mantra of pounding, relentless techno."
